Collecting it yourself is free — here's what you need
No pickup fee, no distance limit. The only question is whether what you drive is rated for what you're taking, so here are the real numbers.
Free means free
There is no collection charge and no mileage limit on it. If you are two hours away and you have the right truck, you pay the rental rate and nothing else. Delivery is the service you pay for; picking it up is not.
That said, we would rather tell you now than have you drive here for nothing. Below is what each machine actually weighs and what it takes to move it.
Weights are the machine alone. Add your trailer — a tandem-axle equipment trailer is typically 1,800–2,500 lb empty — and compare the total against your truck's tow rating and your hitch class, not against the machine weight on its own. That arithmetic is where people get caught out.

What you need to pull it
- A three-quarter-ton truck or bigger. Machine plus trailer puts the combined weight past where a half-ton belongs once tongue weight is counted. A half-ton is the wrong tool for the excavator and we will say so on the phone.
- A trailer rated for the load, not merely large enough to hold it. Check the trailer's GVWR plate, not its deck size.
- Class IV hitch or better, with the ball rating stamped on it matching the load.
- Four chains and binders. One at each corner, with the boom and bucket lowered onto the deck and secured separately. The machine's own brakes and parking lock are not restraint — chain it as though they were not there.
- Working trailer brakes and lights. At this weight electric brakes are not optional equipment.
Fits in a pickup bed
No trailer, no tow rating, no special hitch. A ramp or a second person, and a couple of straps.

Strap anything with an engine upright and shut the fuel off. A tipped machine in a truck bed makes a mess you will be cleaning for a while.
